Pros

Work is slow paced, can be scheduled around school. Jobs are very specialized and you will rarely deal with anything outside of your department. Job security is relatively high.

Cons

Hard to advance. Pay is basically fixed and there really aren't any raises. Change happens slowly or never. Politics play a huge role in everything. Budget cuts can mean the end of a career.

Pros

The non-resident tuition waivers were really nice. Gaining residency at this school is extremely unlikely, so being able to pay in-state tuition made a huge difference.

Cons

First, the contract requires that you not seek outside employment, which would be fine if they paid higher than poverty wages. It doesn't matter, however, because the workload is so heavy it makes finishing coursework on time difficult, and there is no time for a job outside. I was working 60+ hours a week on a ten hour appointment, and this only increased when I became eligible to teach and my appointment became 20 hours. All training for teaching in the classroom as an instructor was based in theory and did not actually prepare us.
