Pros

Employees have good health care, are part of Teacher's Retirement of Texas, and there are a good number of holidays, vacation days (which can accumulate), and sick pay. But starting pay is low considering they want people with a bachelor's or master's degree.

Cons

Upward mobility is fairly limited because people tend to stay in their positions for a while and expect you to get an advanced degree like a PhD or EdD, while working 40 hours a week. Your supervisor is also a crap shoot.

Pros

The cost of living of cheap in Lubbock, making the salary go further.

Cons

The pay is less than other R1 schools, and you have to live in Lubbock, which is very right wing (if that matters to you).
