Pros

The Department has good computer and software infrastructure for graduate students. This includes the support of an IT specialist that believes in service and is very responsive. The leadership, Department Chairman, is very positive and is available for meetings when requested. The Department is well funded, with funding from USDA and commodity groups. Most, if not all, graduate student that apply receive scholarships.

Cons

Department has several office locations within the Lubbock area; this makes interaction between graduate students more difficult.

Pros

The people there are very laid back. The campus is beautiful. The pay is competitive with other universities. You are free to do your own thing just be ready at the deadline.

Cons

Performing technical research you really need to have outside funding for equipment to really get started. Sharing of equipment is not big there.
