Pros

The environment at Textron Systems is not ultra competitive. This means that moving upward is not that hard if you perform well. The culture is very friendly which makes it very easy to network. The benefits are good, especially if you intend to further your education. Changing positions and locations within Textron is not difficult. The work/life balance is probably the best in the industry.

Cons

The moral seems low as far as the future of the company is concerned. Most facilities are outdated and in poor shape. Finally, there are too many layers of management which slows down reaction time and makes the company risk adverse.

Pros

The entry level pay wasn't bad, it wasn't the best offer I had received, but it wasn't the worst either. The dress code was very relaxed so that was nice I guess.

Cons

A living heck. I have never had such a miserable experience in my entire life. There is an atrocious back stabbing culture there. Management promises the customer things they can't deliver, then they sacrifice someone when they inevitably don't deliver. The facility is a dump. The people aren't the best or brightest, and the technology is ancient. Expect to work with sociopaths and other horrible people. Everyone was miserable beyond belief.

Pros

Flexible hours. Nice people to work with. Covered parking. Ok benefits.

Cons

The work can be interesting and challenging but it also depends a lot on contracts. At this time government work is slow in coming so there is a lot of down time or work just fixing bugs which for most developers isn't super exciting or challenging. The company is also currently unstable due to the government slowdown in turning on work so there have been a lot of layoffs. If you are seeking stability this is not the company for you at this time. Maybe in a few years when things get better. If you want to climb the ladder, this is also not the place unless you are starting at the very bottom - that is if you are more senior then advancement is difficult right now because of the elimination of so many positions and shrinking work force. If you are freshly out of college this is a good place to get some experience because most of the above probably won't matter as much - getting experience is more important. Having said all that, Overwatch in Austin is owned by Textron which is a big corporation so if you are willing to relocate then there probably are more opportunities including advancement. When things turn around for this company and they start growing and hiring more, it will probably be a decent place to work. Note it does not have many social activities that a lot of other companies tend to have. It is not cool hip and happening but it is decent work and the people there are really nice to work with.
