Pros

People are friendly. There is great freedom and autonomy. Products are unique to the defense business. Opportunities exist to move and/or work on products at other divisions of the corporation.

Cons

The defense industry is slow paced. Management has little drive. Creative thinking is not in abundance. Processes are outdated. Little employee diversity.

Pros

Great benefits, a smaller "mom and pop" company in a big industry has its pros. Recent changes in executive leadership making employees optimistic that positive change is forthcoming. Great flex benefits if you are in the right position to do so.

Cons

Clicky, tight knit circles don't promote much growth unless you're "in". Upper management is highly bureaucratic and has "old-school" mentality (pay your dues, serve your time instead of caring about skillsets or experience outside of company). Everyone talks about "the old AAI" but I wasn't around to experience it. Best thing that could happen to AAI would be to reach a deal with some of its higher earning and bigger competitors like NG, LM, or Boeing. That might dust off the shelves and allow for a more modern business culture to prevail - and help establish clear forward direction and efficient and valuable processes.

Pros

Once upon a time the complexity and pace of the work was wonderful. It challenged you to be the best while serving your country. "ADC" (Additonal Compensation) was very rewarding.

Cons

I'd complain about the horrible HDHP medical plan, long hours (death marches), lack of remote work (classified labs makes that hard) and so on but the real problem is this company is simply dead. Innovation is dead, new business prospects have died up and there has been a drain in talent ( by choice and by not ) for the last several years. This company isn't going anywhere.
