Pros

The compensation is competitive and benefits are outstanding including the corporate perks regarding discounts on products and services from other companies. The work schedule is always flexible and the amount of vacation given, even to entry level hires, is exceptional. Many incredibly talented individuals, both technical and otherwise, and overall a great work environment regarding the kindness of almost all employees.

Cons

At times the company feels to be stuck in the past in the way it handles not only development of programs but also development of individuals. There does not seem to be a great desire for innovation but rather the focus is on re-utilization of old or existing capabilities. Bureaucracy is evident in almost every aspect of work and although this is the nature of government contracting there are certainly ways to lessen the burden on the employees and the programs they are supporting. Unfortunately a constantly changing organizational structure makes it seem as though the vision for the long term is at times foggy at best and the focus is very heavy on making a profit in the short run as opposed to positioning the company, and its employees, for growth and sustainability in the long run.

Pros

As a defense contractor AAI gets really cool/interesting projects. A lot of the engineers are really smart/ good people to work with.

Cons

AAI/Textron does not care about retaining talent; employees are just a number. It is really difficult to advance in your group. Management openly tells employees best way to get a raise or promotion is to apply to a different group. However that is really difficult because you have to be friends with the managers. Positions are only posted for a couple hours, and the person they want to hire is told about it, then then take the position down.

Pros

Plenty of room for growth and advancement at the lower levels assuming one is motivated, dependable, and competent. The effort typically does not go unnoticed, but this may be dependent upon department. Pay is on-par, if not slightly higher than similar companies in the area. Schedule is extremely flexible - typically have no issues with adjusting schedule to accommodate appointments, education or other personal matters. Ability to work from home is a huge plus. Average tuition reimbursement plan ($8k/yr undergrad level, $10k/yr grad level). Generous retirement savings (max 5% contribution match and additional yearly 4% contribution based upon previous year salary).

Cons

As a larger company, typical bureaucratic issues. Can take a long time to accomplish small tasks.
