Pros

Once upon a time the complexity and pace of the work was wonderful. It challenged you to be the best while serving your country. "ADC" (Additonal Compensation) was very rewarding.

Cons

I'd complain about the horrible HDHP medical plan, long hours (death marches), lack of remote work (classified labs makes that hard) and so on but the real problem is this company is simply dead. Innovation is dead, new business prospects have died up and there has been a drain in talent ( by choice and by not ) for the last several years. This company isn't going anywhere.

Pros

There's plenty to do, and latitude to work in different areas, try things, learn things. You will learn new skills. You will be given new responsibilities. Sometimes you get to see demos of UAVs or other very cool stuff. Flexible schedules usually aren't a problem at AAI if you communicate with your boss.

Cons

For one project, the management had already made a capital purchase (over $10M) but had employees "debate" which system to purchase. If you are hired on as an intern or as an entry level employee, your salary and position will not grow to match the level of your work and responsibilities. At some point you will have to quit to be fairly compensated. Former CEO sold some land to make the company books better so Textron would buy AAI - now there's a Wal*Mart right next door.

Pros

Great people but they are now a rare breed. Few left to make it worth being there. I would avoid this company if possible. You could be jobless soon after arriving!

Cons

Down size, down size, down size. Story of the company. 500+ employees two years ago. Now under 200 in Austin and shrinking. Yet another layoff! How many can it survive? It will not survive long. Current employees hold on for compensation upon lay-off. Management employees let go get great compensation and advanced notice.
