Pros

Nice people, fulfilling work, smart people, good working environment, good benefits. Everyone is brilliant. Great vacation policy.

Cons

Inadequate management (managers often have enough to do as individual contributors in addition to the management work and training appears to be minimal, so sometimes important decisions aren't actively made), salary increases don't match the actual cost of living in the area, lack of planning, minimal career guidance and negative feedback (too nice). Constructive feedback is rare, which means layoffs come as a surprise and it's often unclear how to get raises and promotions. Diversity varies wildly depending on group.

Get your name on some papers and play with nice toys while generally being pretty well treated in a biotech field.

Cons

No upwards career movement within the institute, useful for a launching point but dont expect to go anywhere within.
