Culture is toxic and difficult to navigate. The company promotes a "One Carlyle" philosophy, yet the company is divided into many teams with VERY different cultures; mixing with other teams is frowned upon. Promotions do not happen unless you are there for a specific period of time and are not often based on performance. There is a focus on "performance", but it's unclear what that actually means. There is very little guidance from upper management and employees are all seemingly unhappy, unfriendly, and don't enjoy their jobs. They don't even so much as say "good morning" to one another at the start of the day. It's a very unhappy and unhealthy culture on certain teams.

Your experience will depend on the team you work for. Overall , carlyle is a nice company but you will sense racism here among people around you. You will see some people get promoted with zero effort even with poor quality of work. On the other hand, you will have to do tons of hardwork and process improvements to even considered for a promotion if you are a person with different color. They keep pushing people for the internal inteviews just to fill in their diversity quota but eventually they select their predecided candidates. You will see people who are sugarcoated on your face but completely different on the back.
