Pros

If you network correctly, you will be practically untouchable in terms of job security. The "Full Salary + Commission" structure is unique and most jobs cannot offer this. There is a lot of money to be made if you can ignore the "internal hurdles" and the "internal politics" the STL office has.

Cons

If you are a minority, you do not have any job security no matter how much you network/politic. Other regions of Cigna are different but in the Mid-West it is preferred to be a Caucasian otherwise you can be removed at a moments notice. Due to the high turnover, there is a good chance you will be responsible for cleaning up other workers messes (often). There is no value or loyalty to workers that exceed performance results.

Pros

Great opportunity for young professionals to join and learn 1000 different systems and move around. If you are committed to Insurance Industry and your role doesn't define you and you are okay with moving around and not being in one role for more than say a few years, then this place is for you

Cons

This is Conways Law on steroids. The political climate is so thick and disfunction is so deep not to mention the discriminatory practice of IT Principal Community and never promotion territory of SUW IT, Should you avoid all these pitfalls you just might survive, Its who you know and circle of trust that entitles you. Not what you can do. Every Band 4 knows they do all the work all the time and Band 6 knows it. There's a dysfunctional layer at Band 5 just lucky enough to know they got the job for some reason other than they are actually leaders. I've seen people promoted fast and crazy and others 15 years leading, coaching, mentoring with nothing other than thanks for walking to the loser lot at 2am after another great release.
