Pros

Half day Fridays, quiet days, recharge days/weeks

Cons

Culture has been going downhill since the restructuring in April 2023. Teams continue to shrink or be outsourced, but the work continues to grow. Management is risk averse to avoid making themselves look bad, resulting in staff having to parallel path contingency plans to no end, doubling or tripling normal project work. No one wants to be the one to say “no” to anyone above them for fear of being let go or pushed out. Advancement is slow and lateral moves are hard to come by and extremely competitive because everyone wants to change positions.

Pros

Half day Friday's during the summer.

Cons

Where do I begin? Take anything you were told in the interview process and assume it was a lie. That promotion you were told about? Good luck. Promotions are given out by favoritism, not merit, and even then they are not common. Told you could work flexibly? Sure, but expect the CEO to say nasty things about remote workers on company calls. My dealings with this company have been so toxic that I went from a lifelong Burt’s Bees and Clorox fan to a commitment to never support this company again. I just can’t bear to spend my money with a company that treats people like dispensable, value-less, pawns.

Thanks for taking time to provide feedback, and we’re disappointed you had a negative time at Clorox. The experiences you describe are not consistent with our values. We strive to create a culture where everyone has the opportunity to grow and contribute. We’re also proud of the flexibility in our hybrid model. If you’re willing to share more details to help us continue to improve, we’d welcome it at People@clorox.com.

Pros

Somewhat decent benefits, such as 401K program. Recent college grads can learn about corporate bureaucracy, at its finest.

Cons

Where do we start? Analysis paralysis is rampant. Organization is super vertical and one must stay in the their tiny sandbox to survive. Risk is avoided like the plague. The corporate lawyers have tremendous power, there's even a nickname for them, "IKE", which stands for "Innovation Killer Extraordinaire" Do you like attending meetings with 10+ people where nothing gets accomplished or decided? Multiple times a day? Come to Clorox. I once had to attend a meeting where the objective was to discuss who we should invite to the next meeting. "Meta- meetings" were perfected at Clorox. My senior R&D mentor once told me: "if you want to succeed here, just keep your head down, and don't speak up; you don't want to stand out from the herd. If you suggest new ideas it will look like you don't approve of the current strategy and you will be black-listed" Sad, but very true. A colleague of mine, long gone as well, was once berated by his manager and told "we are not paying you to come up with ideas; we are paying to do what you are told!" This is all true, even people who recommend Clorox will acknowledge everything I listed above. They just put their head down, go to meetings, nod and clap in agreement with everything that management says, and wait for 5:00pm to go home. They love it there. And so can you.
