overuse of herbicides and pesticides, but great company to work for and great atmosphere. lots of overtime!
Pros
Davey is one of the best companies you could work for, as they're employee-owned and that comes with lots of benefits. I really loved the office I worked out of. Loved working outside, the independence, seeing rich peoples' massive and beautiful properties, some days were really easy and happy. Lots of safety protocols that must be followed. I was literally heartbroken when I had to leave, due to injury. This makes me really easy to identify! :D
Cons
Most don't care, but I'm a hippie at heart so this really bothered me: If a client doesn't cancel their service, we will continue to do the work annually even if the plant's issues has been resolved. We make some efforts to minimize pesticide and herbicide use exposure and drift, but you can only do so much, and often the job is just for wealthy people not wanting to look at a few bugs on their trees. In my non-expert opinion, this is partly why our pollinators are dying off and the future of humanity is at stake. Also, working outside is no longer fun when it's 100 degrees or 20 degrees. I didn't mind getting dirty, others might...but these things come with the job.
