Pros

I've always said - the only reason I wouldn't leave Giant are the people I work with. Fellow employees and associates (at least in my store) get along really well. And, my manager is very good at balancing work, school, and a social life for every employee. As a college student, she always asks me if the work load is too much, and how many hours I'd like to work. After 2 years, I have advanced through 4 positions, working my way from bagger to checkout coach (front-end supervisor).

Cons

Many of the upper level managers treat employees like crap. The COM (Customer Operations Manager) will be the one in every Giant Food Store to praise employees, but that is the only manager to expect any sort of praise from. Most of the time, little or no training is provided for new jobs titles. For example, when I started checkout coach (front-end supervisor) I was given 2 nights of "shadowing" where another checkout coach was scheduled with me, then I was off on my own. I had to make my own lists of everything I needed to do to make sure it was done correctly.

Pros

There are Good benefits and I can't complain Positive work environment overall, friendly and courteous at my location flexible and room for growth, there is strong acceptance for moving up, they hire internally

Cons

the pay could be better but compared to other food chains it isn't that bad the company feels like it is stuck at a crossroads

Pros

They hire. The other cashiers are nice and so are some of the check-out coaches.

Cons

They treat cashiers like machines (at least some do). There is a lot of turnover. The schedules vary a lot and all the cashiers are "part-time".
