Pros

The position itself is difficult. The clients face profound behavioral challenges, and depend on staff for support. Although they can be challenging, they are by far the best part of the position and watching them grow and succeed provides more rewards and fulfillment than you will ever know.

Cons

Management is difficult to work with. They expect staff to adhere to standards they refuse to follow themselves. Management does not comply with working on the floor once a week, as they are mandated. This results in them being far removed from both the clients and staff they are managing. In short, they have no idea who the clients are, what they need and how to work with them. Yet they are responsible for staff training. In addition to having no knowledge on how to work with the clientele, they have little to no respect for the staff working in these positions. One example that comes to mind is one where a staff was mandated by her manager to arrive at work during a state of emergency snow storm. This staff called the police to request transportation as she was instructed to do by this manager and was denied transportation. When she followed up with the manager to explain that she wasdenied transportation, and that she could face a fine should she drive anyway. The managers response was "find a way here" Management is unprofessional.

Pros

An abundant amount of overtime. Great coworkers in the field. Great company HR (though sometimes they disregard complaints about people perceived as important) Great to see how clients progress over time. They offer trainings. Claim to assist with tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Employees are muted and regarded as pawns. Money is a strong motivator. Clients aren't always taken care of as well as they ought to be. The hierarchy are extremely ignorant when it comes to client knowledge, resident logistics and day-to-day events and "common knowledge". They thrive on setting a disciplinary quota instead of a basic reward system of acknowledgement. Aren't always accommodating with your school schedule. Regularly mess up on pay (So keep track of your punch-ins/outs). Bed bugs and mice have taken over in a number of the residences. Fail at consistency which is a gateway to unrest in the workplace. For the amount of work that is done in the residences, the pay should be substantially higher. It's discouraging to work +60 hour weeks and then see some of the people hardly in the field, go on vacations once or even twice a month. Very little room to grow, unless you give up all other parts of your life to take on something as little as a dollar raise.
