      Good place to begin working but could be better

      Pros

      Individuals work in teams. Management and employees work side by side. Fairly lenient scheduling and a good time off policy. Most individuals were very friendly. Good environment. Challenging work at times. Many individuals, such as nurses, rehab specialists to help with medical evidence and wording.

      Cons

      Low employee morale, long working hours, extreme metrics that felt were unattainblr at times. Sometimes felt as if we were a step behind the competition when it came to technology and claim handling. At times, the team wasn't very cohesive as individuals needed to look out for themselves. Dealing with angry claimants when they were denied was a downside.

      Pros

      Not a bad starting place in the industry - other employers still respect experience attained from being employed by them.

      Cons

      Lower compensation than most (if not all) other major industry players, difficult to find opportunities for advancement, poor benefits package, low employee morale, lack of respect given to employees, feedback from employees unappreciated. Very much a "do your time and get out" kind of company.

      HIG has some of the best talent in the industry

      Cons

      headquarters still struggles with good ole boys club mentality, unfortunately operations area is so intent on metrics they're sometimes forgetting focus should be on the customer
