Pros

None, a mistake to go there from day 1

Cons

While home recovering from a heart attack and by-pass surgery, I was told I was being fired because I had not been there long enough to be entitled to long-term disability. I was told this on a conference call with my wife also on the line. Suddenly someone on their said took them off the the line and they 'would allow me stay ...", our guess was the lawyers told them I would have a 7-figure law suit ready in a week. SLIME! I feel like I need a shower even talking about them

Pros

The spaces in the parking lot are wide.

Cons

When I see reviews here that say "upper management really listens ", I immediately know it's a fake planted review. The main reason morale is so low, and the reason I left is bc senior management DOESN'T listen. They're good at holding meetings to brag about the company, and they do plenty of employee surveys, but it's all for show. For my first 10 years, The Hig was really a great place to work, but starting then, the entire supportive atmosphere changed into a metric driven culture where management wanted only what was good for the department they managed. Cooperation? Collaboration? Teamwork? Are you kidding?? ? Look at The Hartford as a series of island, separated by water. Towers are built on those islands to keep the people from other islands away, and drawbridges are never in the down position. Need something from your island? Good. Need to collaborate with another island? You better be a good swimmer, bc those drawbridges never come down. And guess how many times you'll be working on something which requires resources from another island? 98% of your time. Make sure you bring your high blood pressure medication, bc you will need it 10 hours every day. The Hartford never wants to be a leader. Management freely admits they'd rather be "quick followers". Maybe that wouldnt be so bad if they really were 'quick' but they just aren't. That's their culture, so if you have ambition, this would be career hell for you. If you just want to poor along, and stay under the radar with your head down, then this is the place for you. What a shame that they've fallen so far.

Pros

Very good benefits, and one of the few companies still providing annual bonus and 401k contribution. PTO is generous as long as you work twice as hard before and after taking PTO in order to stay current on deadlines, and other responsibilities. They provide a truely contemporary work environment with flexible start times, along with occasional or full remote work opportunities. Most locations do not have a strict old business dress code. Prepare for and accept a 50+ hr work week.

Cons

Never criticize a program while it is 'in favor', or you will be ostracized for daring to go against the tide. If you keep your head down and wait it out, someone in the upper echelon will start a movement to change the program and that person will be celebrated as a champion of change. The current culture is to limit new hires to recent graduates from select universities. The creators of this 'program' apparently did not consider that had their 'program' been in effect over the last 20 years or so, none of them would have been here to create it. Is it advantageous for any corporation to bring to the table, employees whose only experience is with the same company? Bravo!
