Pros

The employees are incredible humans. This company has consistently hired the best people: passionate, creative, motivated, hard-working, and a joy to be around. And they attracted these folks by embracing a people-first culture that was not only wildly humane compared to most tech and finance companies, but fostered creativity, growth, and innovation. I felt like I'd been asked to join a really wonderful think tank that was genuinely looking to make the world "smarter, happier, and richer." It would be years before I realized that culture was eroding into something not toxic, but much more standard for Wall Street.

Cons

The company has a habit of diving headfirst into new technology in an effort not to be "left behind"... without doing due diligence about the true value or ethics of that technology. See cryptocurrency and AI. It doesn't matter that both are ethically bankrupt (bad for the environment, based on the theft of intellectual property, etc.), nor that the true value of both is dubious (see Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett's comments on crypto, and the smoke and mirrors that makes up Sam Altman's promises to investors). The leadership team was practically desperate to embrace these technologies before the competition could. This contributed to the erosion of the positive company culture into something absolutely horrible for morale.
