An exceptional place to work

Pros

Culturally, it's hard to find a cooler place to work than the Fool. The people are very friendly, the policies are very employee friendly, and the compensation is good. Financially, Motley Fool is growing at solid double-digit growth rates and is very sound. Senior management continues to make smart decisions about how to drive the business.

Cons

I'm not sure if there are many downsides of working at the Fool. The company is very focused on certain key initiatives, so perhaps one possible downside is that there isn't as wide-ranging an assortment of project work that you might think there would be. The only other thing is that it's a very flat organization, so people coming to the Fool from bigger companies with many layers of management might be both pleasantly surprised at the flatness of the org chart, but equally confused about how they themselves can advance. Other than that, it's a tough place to beat.

Pros

Awesome benefits and great people. The company leadership has defined a clear road map, so I where we're going and how I can help us get there. My boss is the bomb! These are by far the nicest and most itelligent people I have ever worked with. The collaboration at the company is fabulous. I don't feel like there is company "politicing" happening like I've experienced at almost every other employer that I've worked for. We spend a lot of time together - not because we have to, but because we want to. This is my second full-time stint with The Motley Fool and I hope that it lasts a long, long time.

Cons

The D.C. area is expensive.

Don't be fooled by this place

Pros

You can obtain valuable knowledge about investing while working for this company. The company tries really hard to make it a cool and hip place to work, after awhile it does get weird.

Cons

Management at the company is like working from within a concentration camp. Everything is very top-down and your input will be ridiculed constantly by you management. There's a lot of nepotism within the organization making politics a very big part of everyday. Privacy is not an option at this company. Desks are right up against each other, so that the company can pack as many people possible onto a single floor.
