Pros

I enjoy the fact that I chose my own neighborhood, after personally doing the research. I work from my home office and can set my own schedule. I have a large family, and this is a huge pro. The product is good - I've been in the print industry a long time and the residents do enjoy the magazines.

Cons

But setting my own schedule has meant that I work 10 -12 hour days, 5 days a week, setting appointments, meeting with clients, listening to daily conference calls, taking conference calls with administrative staff for instruction, as well as developing content for the publication each month. I have recruited a couple of volunteers to help me; otherwise I would have quit by now. We are strongly "encouraged" to spend our weekend time developing our phone lead list for each week, instead of spending time with our families. We are also expected to attend initial training, regional training, and national conferences on our own dime. When I was struggling, I was told to go and visit another director for "field training". Again, at our expense. (There was a standing offer that, if the field training was over 100 miles, a motel room would be provided, but it was like begging to get that to happen.) And all of this, as others have said, without making any money. Yes, it is commissioned-based, but many sales people are used to selling a product and being paid in a shorter sales cycle. Not everyone is a 3 month closer, not everyone can "set 200 appointments and go to print". And not everyone is geographically near a manager to get help. Oh, and not having more than one or two sample magazines to show is not great, either. Ante-up some of your profits and get each trainee enough materials to sell. My sample copy is dog-eared and looks pretty rough. I have asked for additional material and have yet to receive any. Lastly, I have to agree that having unprotected territories is tough - in my case, another ADC was placed in my backyard with no warning. Clients that I have spent months calling on are asking questions. It's healthier for the "team" if we are more informed. But this would probably get back to what another reviewer said about researching neighborhoods. Don't grow so fast that you forget about the feet on the streets!

Pros

The only Pros I can think of aren't exclusive to this company. You "get" to work for yourself.

Cons

There is a 3-4 month sales cycle wherein the employee(1099) must cover all costs involved. Costs include equipment, phone/internet service as well as gas and other expenses incurred during the selling process. These costs are NOT reimbursed. Additionally, they do not mention these costs in their job listings.

Pros

Meeting residents Meeting business owners Make your own schedule Can earn good Money in short term Good 3 to 5 year opportunity for a cold calling aggressive salesperson

Cons

Product does not deliver what clients want as Cost is way too high, there are not enough potential homes that can do business and the product is filled with ads so there is little chance to be seen. They even say “the magazine without events doesn’t work.” Events are not regular and often there are not enough residents there to bring business. They are fun, the stories on the newsletter are good and read bit don’t equate to business for more than a handful of realtors, High end remodelers and. I niche businesses. Etc..roi is low. N2 charges way to much to its area directors in addition to costs outside for Staff and gifts and errors and quarterly taxes and extra pages. Relationships that begin great sour due to low roi, requirement of Area Director to collect payments when they don’t go thrift, which affects income, and so one may go through 300 businesses in 3 or 4 years. Contracts trap business into paying thousands for ads that don’t bring many calls and so the relationships are harmed. Model is not sustainable so many quality businesses close. It is just like insurance sales and knife sales..hard core cold calling. 100 percent commission income No benefits Required costs of travel and training and override for leaders Deceptive tactics to set meetings

The N2 Company Response
3y
Hi there. While we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review for a role you were in for more than eight years, we have to disagree with your many points. The award-winning training we provide for our Area Directors does not include selling false promises. We stress the importance of clear expectations and open communication with our clients from day one. Anyone who does not follow this is not a fit for this opportunity, which may have turned out to be the case for you. We have tens of thousands of happy, returning businesses who partner with their local publication to reach their ideal clients and are sad to hear you don’t believe the clients you served were a good fit. As an Area Director, you have the ability to drive your financial outcomes and we have not changed our commission structure in many years. The points you made in the “Advice to Management” section of this review have been shared with leadership. We wish you the best.
