We have a cool product, tunnel boring machines. The people in the Kent office are great to work for.

Cash flow problems means sometimes things need to be redesigned .

It's a place to work

Pros

The people are great. My co-workers and supervisors are very pleasant to work with and there are often happy hour gatherings. The starting pay is good, but wage increases are paltry and far between. Somewhat regular pot-lucks and bbq's. Flexible start and end times, but no "4-10's".

Cons

Morale is generally quite low. There is literally no feedback from manufacturing or the customers about whether a design was good or bad. You will never actually see anything that you have designed. Solid Edge is our CAD platform and it is terrible. The CAD support team is often as surprised and stumped by errors as the users. Wages are stagnant. Communication throughout is quite poor. The office building is disgusting and run-down with very old furnishings. Engineering workstations are old and slow. The company is run in a manner that results in constant fire-fighting and a rush to get things out the door. 8.5 days PTO per year with 5 additional days after 5 years. 6.5 sick days per year, the minimum set by state law. No opportunity to work from home. 40+ hours is often expected, but not required.
