Pros

My favorite thing about working for The Salem Group is matching employees with job opportunities. I enjoy meeting with different people every day and learning about their work experience and current job search. It is very rewarding to find people work and share their joy and excitement when I am able to offer them a position. It is also rewarding to find the perfect fit for our clients and assist with their needs. As an employee, I truly feel I am part of a family here. I am comfortable approaching everyone here and can reach out to and rely on my team members when I need help. I think Salem offers great benefits and there are constant opportunities to learn and develop. Different challenges and scenarios arise every day that provide me with the chance to learn something new. I also feel the senior management does a great job with recognizing talent and the potential for an employee to develop their role at Salem and grow their career.

Cons

This job requires you to keep up with a fast-paced, constantly changing environment. If that isn't appealing to you, then you would not be successful here. I enjoy the day-to-day variety in my work and I enjoy being busy.

Pros

I have worked with other staffing agencies in the past, and I can truly say that no other company cares about their people more than Salem. The Salem staffing offices are polite and professional, while doing their best to communicate as much as possible to employees and potential candidates. They always put their people and clients first. Excellent senior leadership - they are extremely loyal, while still holding people accountable. The biggest compliment I can give to management is that they let people do their jobs. They allow you to take ownership in what you are doing as if it were your own company. Over the years, I have developed many strong relationships that I continue to maintain today.

Cons

I didn't personally encounter any. It's a fast-paced environment, and it definitely keeps you on your toes - so if you don't have an entrepreneurial spirit or a great work ethic, it wouldn't be a good fit. But, people with strong drive and commitment thrive at Salem.

Pros

For the most part, Salem is a "vacation" from a true staffing career. A nice place to visit, but not build a future. Generally nice people.

Cons

Salem lacks leadership. The owners of the company are extremely nice, but are not business people by any stretch of the imagination, something they also lack. They are firmly entrenched in 1985 (with systems to match) and the company is notoriously back office heavy. Instead of the sales organization driving the business, lazy and rude hangers-on in a bloated back office run the show. If they can get in the way of producers making money, they'll find a way! A very D-list book of business and marketing programs developed by an Executive Assistant and you've got a company that doesn't grow, just languishes in neutral. Good people leave as soon as they figure out they were promised a future and financial gain that never materialize and slackers stay for years. The worst of the worst are promoted instead of fired and into strangely titled executive positions where they can do even less.
