Pros
Good training opportunities. The standard offers many opportunities to learn and hone your skills. It’s a good place for people first moving into a new professional area or someone who wants to brush up on the latest standards. Also, working downtown is nice if you can afford to pay for parking. Otherwise, bus service is pretty good.
Cons
While the corporate values state that doing the right thing, being creative and innovative is promoted and valued - the reality is the opposite. The leadership at the top has very good values but by the time they filter through middle management agendas and short-term goals, the people on the front lines get a very different message. The Standard is not a place where someone with a lot of creativity and initiative would flourish or be satisfied. Also, unless you are hired in at the middle management layer, the ability to be promoted beyond the grade you are hired in is virtually impossible so negotiate the best compensation you can going in.
