Pros

Salary is great for the non-profit world. Some freedom explore new ideas and try new programs. People are generally friendly and helpful.

Cons

The hours are long and feedback is not frequent enough. Salary is not comparable to the for-profit world and there are no bonuses for above-and-beyond work. Lots of red tape.

Pros

The YMCA offers a great working environment for students looking to gain experience in a non-profit organization. The hands-on training left me much more prepared for entering the workforce.

Cons

One of the downsides about being an intern is that you end up doing some of the more menial labor, but that is to be expected with any internship. The positives definitely outway the negatives.
