Not Worth the Effort

Pros

Results always seem come out strong each quarter, which is great for shareholders and employee stock holdings; despite inefficiencies, ineptness, and layers of protected long service leaders who seem not to be accountable to delivery outcomes but drive up costs. Carlsbad is a great location to be based

Cons

Downright inept leadership, a "yes" culture required up to the CEO, recycled leadership at the top levels that is change averse, closed to new ideas that can impact and contribute. Culture in LSG is toxic, people exit and are made to feel when they've resigned, and have money thrown at to retain, and still decide to exit, that they are now the problem. Retaliatory culture, and one where long standing/service relationships to the old boy network thrive. Culture of keeping your mouth shut, head down, don't try to affect change, and that's the best way to survive and get promoted.

Pros

The benefits are really great: 3 weeks of PTO, Many options of insurance plans, Good 401k, life insurance, short and long term disability.

Cons

The culture of the company is pretty much trying to find a guilty when something goes wrong. People do not work together to resolve and improve things, instead, departments work apart and when there is something that is not right, they try to blame each other (finger point). There is a huge resistance to change process and the way things are done and they keep doing things the same way they used to do 20 years ago. Upper management does not hear lower level and understand problems and what needs to be done for things to be more functional and easier. Lower management does not understand the job and their own departments processes and try to put in place processes that just do not work.

Pros

Global experience working with the Fortune 500 company

Cons

If you've ever worked for a company with politics at play, you'll know exactly what I am going to say before I say it. Politics eroded and destroyed the high-performing and trusting TA team I was part of within a few years time. It was mostly the doing of one particularly toxic and unfortunate leader, however when leader with these traits are empowered, the rest is history. The leadership of this team have a few blind spots and a survival instinct. . When added together, this combination left members of the team unsupported and craving a leader who had their back. I am a firm believer that open and honest communication can soften any news. I also believe that the integrity of the people that you work for matter. I found myself missing these things tremendously at Thermo Fisher. The only exception is when the project you are leading is a priority for the business. When that is the case, you'll be treated well, and moderately rewarded. But when your high priority project is over, so are you. There are so many opportunities right now, don't waste your time on Thermo Fisher. If you do take a chance on them, use it for everything it's worth so you don't look back and regret it. I do not regret my time with the company, but being on the other side really puts into perspective how toxic and unhealthy the last 2 years were.
