Pros

In such an uncertain time, all eyes are on companies and brands around the world and how they are responding to our changing environment. In Portland it's no different, and I'm proud to be working at a company that is truly putting it’s people first. Over the last few weeks, leadership has been as transparent as always, sharing current status/overall health of the company and what they are planning for the next 6mo-a year. And they’ve been incredibly thoughtful around how to support the well-being of employees. Adapting to the new WFH culture, creating virtual group events, surveying to get a better understanding of our evolving needs- they even created a very heartfelt manifesto, which I know was encouraging and inspirational for many of us. So I guess this is a big ‘Thank you’ for everything and to anyone searching for your next chapter, I highly recommend you join this team!

Pros

One of the best things about working at Thesis is the people. These individuals are some of the smartest, most motivated and talented people I've ever worked with. If any designer is underwater or needing help there's no shortage of volunteers to step in and lend a hand. The company is growing really quickly and leadership really is trying to put good processes in place as well as prioritizing affinity groups (LGBTQA+, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Working Mothers, etc) and taking a stance in the community. 75% of the time everyone gets to go home at 5pm and be done for the day, so work/life balance is pretty good.

Cons

The company has grown really, really quickly over the course of my time here and is going through normal growing pains. Finessing processes, creating room for everyone, assessing how many people are needed to be efficient and avoid burnout. This has happened at all 3 agencies I've worked at and it's always difficult, but Thesis is taking all the right steps to make sure we navigate the change in a way that will impact everyone in a good way. It just takes time.

Pros

You make money. They have kombucha on draft.

Cons

It’s a toxic environment. The agency is structured poorly. Leadership flosses a mantra of trendy business buzzwords and idealistic industry jargon. The workforce was highly unbalanced, aggressively staffing interns and agency first timers while in a state of constant turnover at Senior and Director level positions—there was no plan for me a middle. Unfortunately, what was sold as an amazing opportunity turned into a giant step backward for my career and professional development.
