Pros

Opportunities working with various populations (e.g. adolescent, dual dx, middle adulthood, geriatric, severe mental illness etc.) Working w/ doctors, nurses (a multi-disciplined team of professionals).

Cons

95% case management; 5% group counseling; 0% individualized patient care. For profit hospital caters to shareholders. Your called a social worker regardless of your discipline, and you are forced to be secretaries to the doctors (filling out their paperwork along w/ your paperwork). NOTE: Hospital still operates w/ paper charts (NO ELECTRONIC RECORDS). You will be writing and writing and writing in the midst of making phone call after phone call after phone call... There is consistently 3 days worth of work and it all needs to be done today! Which is possible if you want to work more than 40hrs per week... you'll be on salary so it won't matter if your working into the evenings or on weekends... they don't care (just get your paperwork finished)!!!
