Pros

Great Benefits. Low expectations. Ability to work in the financial industry but not have the rigorous work schedule of some of the larger financial firms. Since expectations are low, it's easy to stay in a job once you get there. Individual development not required.

Cons

Lack of management vision. Inability to look at alternative solutions. Work force is primarily over the age of 50, not a very young company. Opportunities to grow as an individual are limited.

Pros

In this "down turn economy", I feel proud to represent Thrivent Financial. I believe we represent an honest Financial company that serves our members with integrity!

Cons

None that I have found so far. maybe that we don't have the national media exposure that some of the other financial firms have.

Pros

Great balance if you have lots of priorities away from work. Great mission, very kind and caring people there for the most part. The whole concept of an Insurance and Financial Services Fraternal organization is a great one, and Thrivent is uniquely positioned as the largest. Thrivent's mission will appeal to those who want their work to mean more than just making a living. The "Do well to do good" mission is unique to Thrivent of all the places I've worked. Personally I will also say that my immediate peer group and leader were great colleagues and a joy to work with.

Cons

The average skillset (especially in IT) is quite low. Long tenures mean many there are stuck in their ways and have not learned much new in terms of skills or processes. Sr. Leadership does not recognize the limitations of the IT skill gap and the damage it is doing to the viability of the organization. And when people from outside try to make things better they are stymied more often than not by the incumbents. Also, since Thrivent is the result of two predecessor Lutheran Fraternals, there is even now a notable schism between the former AAL (in Appleton, WI) and the former Lutheran Brotherhood (in Minneapolis, MN). This really needs to be fixed and will require very strong leadership to do so.
