Pros
I great place to work, in the later years of my career they converted most of the development to Scrum which really helped. Another important point is that there are so many different technologies used that you can work for them for multiple years and a completely different job. They were family oriented and allowed working from home, and also many remote workers. The offshore workers may they come from india, or slavic regions were easy to work with and cooperative.
Cons
Financial issues, possibly due to the highly competitive nature of the set-top business. And while working with offshore is pleasant the impending increase of more and more development going offshore indicates a possible reduction in workforce in Alviso. Company was bought by Rovi, future probably uncertain based on this and also the SEC violation class action law-suited being levied by multiple law firms. Income from IP portfolio is drying up adding to financial problems.
