Very little diversity among exec team and managers

Pros

- Engineers are sharp and dedicated to their customers. - Data centers are hardened, secure and modern. Good locations across the US. - HR tries to keep our medical benefit costs down, which is good and appreciated because our salary increases are very low.

Cons

- White male dominated executive team and management team. Pictures on the TP website tell you all you need to know. - Documentation is a mess, probably due to the many acquisitions. - CEO Jerry Kent preaches family first, but apparently that only means his family because several of us were ordered to cancel family plans multiple times in order to meet managers deadlines.

Some good ideas here, but...

Pros

Conceptually some fantastic ideas have been developed within the department to help employees build confidence and experience both technically and from a customer service standpoint.

Cons

Unfortunately the execution of the aforementioned ideas is sadly lacking. TierPoint falls into the same trappings as other tech companies as of late, making false promises about the ability to work at home. Usually any promises made are intentionally vague as to be easily reneged on at a whim, this will happen eventually. Beyond this management relies on personal biases to determine attitude towards staff. Performance and or technical acumen matters not if your management comes up with an arbitrary reason to dislike you that day. This poisons productivity at large and feels like a tragic missed opportunity. Gradually good ideas turned into stiff micromanagement, and team leads turned to stereotypical middle management. The optimal team lead served as a resource for technical staff to consult on customer service issues, technical oddities, and nuanced internal processes. This turned into leads being sourced from staff that failed at a technical level, and were then utilized as middle management to browbeat staff at every step of the work day and parrot the messages of upper management. Ultimately many decisions and promotions of woefully unqualified staff happened to benefit the careers of management and not that of the business as a whole. If you want to work in a fast paced technical environment offering exposure and training in various technology stacks and plenty of opportunity for advancement based on your quality of work, technical experience, and communication skills look elsewhere as you'll be disappointed here.
