Pros

I had been with Tilden for several years and can't say enough about the impact on my life as an educator, the flexibility and understanding of the management to allow me to pursue my personal/professional goals, and the satisfaction of seeing my students thrive. My colleagues have always been welcoming, amazing educators. I was able to build lasting friendships that I will cherish. The Heads have always been there to address my concerns and needs. Even with competing priorities, they have always found time to give guidance and direction. The Directors are warm and welcoming and appreciative of feedback. Though they are not always about to make adjustments they consider and plan for improvements each year. Having been a long term employee I have seen it firsthand. As an educator, being about to get to know a student one-to-one is an amazing transformative experience and taught me much about being an educator and the power of individualized education. Though I have moved on from Tilden, I would return in a heartbeat.

Cons

Some teachers have a toxic attitude toward the workplace and management which can really affect the tone of the workplace at times and strain relationships.

Pros

High pay for a recent college grad with minimal experience

Cons

• Unpaid hours that everyone uses to stay on top of their numerous courses. • Poorly written and error filled exams and keys that make grading difficult and exacerbate the above. • Part-time and constantly shifting schedules that make it impossible to keep another part-time job during the day. • Total lack of conflict resolution and arbitrary enforcement of policy. • Unsympathetic and retaliatory administration. • High teacher turnover, even though they say that it’s low during interviews. • No vacation outside of school break.

Good pay, good support, great students

Pros

The one-on-one teaching model works for a lot of students who have struggled in classroom environments. It's intense for the teachers--you're always "on"--but the curricula are straightforward and the students receptive, for the most part. Not a ton of involvement in day-to-day activities from the administration, which is mostly a pro. Starting pay CAN be good (see below), and work life balance is great--there's very little to take home, if you don't want there to be.

Cons

I negotiated a great starting rate, but I know others have not, so there are some disparities across the faculty. Benefits are so-so, and eligibility starts at 25 hrs/week. KP and BC for medical, no retirement plan. There's very little downtime, and barely enough paid prep time for the amount of work to be done. A little more would make a big difference.
