Pros

Great people and culture within the company, especially at WHQ. Open to supporting your additional education (sponsor you in earning a Masters degree, for example). Very organized and well-structured company. Part of every industry, so not especially impacted by economic fluctuations. They have a fantastic reputation for quality and technical expertise among customers, so if you work in sales, you will never feel unwelcome at customer locations, however if your customer only cares about price, Timken isn't going to budge. They know their value and demand compensation for it from customers. In my limited experience, they truly want their employees to have a solid work-life balance.

Cons

They have very solid benefits and they won't work you to death, but I discovered after leaving Timken that their compensation is usually below market averages. They are also a public company and know who butters their bread. At the end of the day, they are there to serve shareholders first and foremost, so if loyalty to an employee comes at the expense of shareholder value, don't expect it. They were also moving as much of their production overseas as they could while I was there, but to be fair, so does everyone else in the manufacturing industry. Overall, they were a solid employer and I had a good experience working there. Also, if you have any ambitions of moving up in the company, (outside of sales or mfg plant management), be prepared to live in Northern Ohio because those opportunities are at WHQ in North Canton, Ohio. Not a knock on Timken, just the reality.

Pros

It's a small plant and the work is relatively easy, as long as you're willing to learn, can add and subtract, and work with decimals you will be fine.

Cons

Some of leadership is becoming toxic, morale is the lowest I've seen in a while. If you can get a 1st shift job you're golden. But if you're on 2nd or 3rd, you'll be screwed 6 ways to Sunday at some point. They don't care about people's lives or schedules outside Timken. Switch from 8 hour to 10 hour shifts, sure! Cut out a whole shift and move people around, sure! Go from working 13 days on 1 day off for close to a year to having no overtime at all, running out of work, and sending people home, yep!

Pros

Decent benefits and crew schedules

Cons

Management can’t see 3 foot into future. Work OT for months on end and doesn’t react to supply shortages only to cut hours and take weeks out. Hire right up till layoff only to then fire other members off shop floor while office continues to work like normal.
