Pros

Unlimited PTO Will put you on the radar of recruiters for better companies to save / poach you

Cons

To echo another review posted: Both in terms of the work and the culture, this is ALSO the worst job I've ever had and I deeply regret ever coming to Toast. While another reviewer suggests you ask questions on your interview about the work you’ll be doing of your colleagues during your interview to avoid being deceived; I did just that and was told that talking to me about work that the team has done is “confidential” (regardless of having signed an NDA before my interview). Frankly, they don’t want to tell you they have no idea what you’ll be doing, at what level, and for whom. It seems they make it up after you’ve started. I can also confirm, pay is grossly below market. They preach about “internal equity” whilst low-balling job applicants and wonder why the talent is mediocre. It’s not my problem Billy accepted crap pay 5 years ago as a justification for why I shouldn't be paid market value today. Also agree: The culture around DEI is A JOKE here - never seen a place that so adamantly touts itself as inclusive while falling so flat. For the most part, unless you’re a white male, have an Ivy League degree, or worked at the golf channel, forget meaningful advancement or a spot at any leadership table unless it’s at a company that isn’t Toast. It’s the least DEI company I’ve ever seen. Speaking of touting, they also like to tout about how they’re an amazing “best place to work” while hoards of people are quitting and almost everyone I’ve met since I started that isn’t leadership has complained about how terrible Toast is to work, how much they’re overworked, how leadership shifts priorities, or engages in wasteful nonsense to some degree. It’s like watching leadership twisting the arms of their teams into submission until they finally say “fine, sure, whatever, Toast is soooo good to work for”. Perhaps Toast was a great place to work at some point in their history but it’s smoke and mirrors today. Short of that, the company is excessively disorganized and wastes a mind-numbing amount of time and resources in their disorganization. Seeing how customers are mistreated, forgotten, and ignored is embarrassing. I dont tell people I work at Toast because it’s so embarrassing. The company recently went public and you can tell in all the textbook bad ways. It’s a slippery slope down from here.
