Not What I Envisioned

Pros

Working from home and having a job.

Cons

Laid off employees in kind of a game show manner where everyone was placed in a zoom and were told if you get a link shortly you would be let go. Imagine the stress that caused for some folks. I was excited to work at Topstep under the impression that Topstep's idea was to help traders have a safe place to learn and improve their trading skills. I was wrong, this is a company dedicated to one thing and thats how many monthly fees and how many reset fees we can get out of you. Trading education? Yes if you were willing to pay a coach over $350 a month for it. If you get too good at trading on TopStep, they will put barriers in place to stop you from reaching that finish line. They feed the traders lil nuggets like look here is a list of the guys who passed the combine vs the percentage of traders who passed each month. Besides the cliches etc this company is the boys club and a money pit. Diversity is miniscule

Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts. We’re sorry that your experience with Topstep didn’t match your expectations. There is no ideal way to do layoffs, but with Covid still present, bringing the team together in the office was not possible. This was an incredibly difficult decision and we tried our best to conduct the process in a fair and compassionate manner. We apologize if we fell short in this effort, but we needed to align the size of our business with the reality of the markets. As for our traders, we are proud to offer them a safe opportunity to professionalize their passion without risking their own savings in high-risk markets. Topstep works hard to provide tools, practice accounts, and educational resources, many of which are complimentary, to help our traders — we invested heavily into building Coach T, our new Digital Trading Coach. All of this is meant to put aspiring traders in the best possible position to succeed. We share funded trader stories to motivate less experienced traders and show the rewards possible when one trades with discipline and patience. We believe strongly that our risk rules instill these positive qualities in traders. Diversity is a value at Topstep and we are proud to have people from all walks of life represented on our teams, leadership, and ownership group at Topstep. We wish you nothing but the best going forward with your career and thank you again for your feedback.

Pros

They make it seem like they care about employees wellbeing. They’re willing and eager to train employees.

Cons

Gathering all 80 of the companies in a meeting and telling them that they will be letting people go because the company cannot afford to keep them. Then telling people that those that will be let go will receive an email in 5 minutes. This wasn’t necessary. This frightened all employees because no one knew if they would be let go or not. There’s no sense of job security at this company and management is not on one page. Please do not work here. If they knew they were experiencing hardship then they shouldn’t have hired so many new workers in the beginning of the year. They way they laid people off was cruel.

Thank you for your open and honest feedback - it's something we cherish at Topstep. You're correct: we do care about our team's well-being. And you're also correct: right-sizing our headcount (for the sake of accuracy, we had to say goodbye to 9 teammates, not 12) while working remotely was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I tried to do it with empathy and understanding. I hope you can appreciate my accountability is the continued health and growth of Topstep, so saying goodbye was hard, but necessary. I believe Topstep is now better positioned to rebuild in this new, unchartered, post-COVID economy. Once again, I appreciate your post.
