Pros

Great products (historically) that tend to sell themselves - sometimes customers just need a little help in the styling department to know how to best dress their body, their complexions, and stylishly within their lifestyle and workplace environments. The best place to get stylish clothing sizes 10-30 for people who identify as women. A hardworking employee skilled in multitasking, customer service, and efficiency would do well here in terms of ability to do the job…(not that you will ever be paid the hours or benefits you are worth unless you are store manager or higher… not even close).

Cons

This company will always put its “image” before sound business practices…unless they’re referring to ethics. In that case, when it comes to operating openly in the gray area, they are all up in that, as dirty as they come. Quiet firing, creating their own high turnover by constantly demoralizing their employees who go in, kill it on the sales floor (consistently making a large portion of the stores’ plan (sales/conversion/ADT/UPT) for them in a matter of 4 or less hours) by constantly hiring new employees when you won’t even give your *current* employees their hours (assuming you have 120 to work with for the week - store manager 35 - two key holders at 30 hours, one keyholder at 20 hours (part time)… you only need maybe 2 or three sales associates at this point… and shouldn’t hire more until your Matrix gets raised to give THOSE employees their hours hours they are requesting. Stop hiring people who are only available one day a week! Prioritize hours for those who this IS their only job and who make your job easier! It isn’t rocket science! This company literally is like the ENRON of the fashion industry… as long as the executives and investors are happy, who cares about the actual workers’ ability to pay their rent, feed their families, be able to put gas in their vehicle to get to work… NO BENEFITS NO HOURS LOWEST PAYING JOB OF MY ENTIRE ADULT LIFE IF I MADE EVEN 10% commission on my sales, I would have made more than my District Manager’s SALARY. Instead, they pay me $10.35/hr… I applied to an ad on their website showing salary range $17-25/hr. At interview/job offer, I got told, “Oh no, it’s only $13 to start but then it goes up after that…” …a job offer for keyholder was extended and I began training for that position. My first paycheck came… 3 1/2 weeks later to a prepaid debit card I was unable to actually opt out of until my third paycheck… and my pay rate was $10.35/hr. Then the story became “oh well once you have your other interviews with the other store managers, you’ll be “officially” keyholder and DM will sign off on the title and the raise. “UH THAT ISN'T THE JOB YOU OFFERED OR THE ONE I ACCEPTED OR THE RATE OF PAY FOR EITHER!” And then my hours started getting cut. So, if you want to keep your hours (which will be at, at least, 1/3 less than the offered or agreed upon salary at hire), DO NOT SAY A WORD or let your manager find out you looked up the number to Human Resources. Your hours will get cut… drastically… they now have me scheduled for a mere SIX hours and here is a lovely excerpt from our DM’s email: “ Hello Team. We did it, got through al the visits. Snout out to stores 5662, 5269,5630, 5827 for hosting the visits) Thank you al. Time to concentrate on conversion, ADT, TOC and comp. IBC doing reviews, delegating Cleaning up new store fixtures, working on RFID . training on LP and selling behaviors. SM'S wnen making scnedules moving forward sales associates Will work 3-hour shifts instead of 4. This will allow your next person coming in time to clock in and the MOD will be able to go over the chat in without being rushed and allow more floor coverage. Also, instead of someone off at 1 you will have them off at 1:15 Instead of 3 you will have them off at 5:15. We will talk more about this go forward on our [sic] call. Employees may not pick up any other hours at any other stores (even your own) on days that they are scheduled to work a shift, no matter how short. That means no employee outside of management should ever be scheduled for more than 15 hours a week, ever, but best practice is to divide your remaining hours among ALL your employees evenly and continue hiring… the employees who are not going to be okay with these changes will naturally leave Torrid with their hours being cut… Torrid should really be just for customers who want the discount and not for people who actually need full time or even full part time hours… because this is a “part time” job for anyone not in management. This benefits everyone because funds not spent on benefits can mean more money for leadership bonuses. Torrid is going in a new direction and this change is effective immediately.”
