This is especially frustrating and illogical when your direct reports and teams are based in other countries, meaning you commute just to sit on video calls. - Imbalanced Executive Leadership: Product and Engineering both roll up to a single leader whose background is primarily in sales. This creates a systemic imbalance where product feature delivery is consistently prioritized over engineering health, technical debt reduction, and architectural stability. - Engineering Bottlenecks: Because of the leadership focus, the tech stack suffers. The codebase is deeply coupled and shared across multiple teams, creating a monolithic structure. Because releases are complicated and heavily reliant on manual QA work rather than automated testing, the organization is bottlenecked to only two scheduled releases per week.
