Pros

Decent salary and benefits, competitive to industry, can come and go as you need to, most managers let you do your job the way you want to

Cons

Be careful what department you are entering as there is a big push to offshore work, even at the management level, the old timers will tell you what a great company it was to work for, but the days of investing in own employees seems gone

Pros

Great longtime employees. Cafeteria. Gym. Good benefits. It's a paycheck until you find somewhere safe to work that encourages employees to advance within their skill set.

Cons

Constantly slashing department staff. Outsourcing to India. Moving jobs to other cites - shedding of tenured employees with good salaries. Then instead of promoting from within they hire sub-par managers from outside that don't have a clue about the insurance business. No seriously, they have a "rule" about not promoting within a department for a position that pays more than 10% of current income. Seriously. Great offices . . . except they are all empty and people forced into tiny cubes . . . . lots and lots of empty space. Pay scale is on the VERY low side for many positions. HR is only about hiring. Middle and lower managers are left to do as they please which means there is no consistency as to policies and procedures and nothing in place to address workplace bullying.

Pros

I forged friendships that last to this day there. Most of those people were either smart enough to leave on their own accord, but some were victims of cliques and office politics and succumbed, as I eventually did, to essentially forced termination.

Cons

Office culture is horrific. Camaraderie is virtually non-existent. The appreciation of privacy and individualism is shunned upon from top-level, down. If you weren't willing to fit some type of "mold", and attach to an existing clique, none of which were appealing, you found yourself combatting the petty people being rewarded for such backward behavior.
