Good pay, reasonable work load, good benefits, but don't expect to get promotions, raises, or incentives

This company started out good for me. 9 years ago, they lured me over with a salary that was 20% over the company that I was currently working with, and I wasn't even looking to leave. I quietly did my job and received no complaints and gave no complaints. As time went on, I was able to take classes and receive opportunities to do several different lines of work, making me actually worth every penny I was getting paid. The work load and goals were achievable. People were great and a majority were high quality people. Overall, if you are satisfied with your position and like what you do, you will like this company. It is not the kind of work I would do for free, but it wouldn't be a job if you didn't get paid. Next, to the cons...
Cons
After several "lateral" moves and knowing more about the business than my bosses, I started to get bored with the work I was currently doing. I considered myself the best on my team when it came to what I was doing, and I feel for the most part, that was a consensus with my peers and managers. I was kind of the "go to guy" name when others were being told that they were not up to par and to check with me on how I performed my day to day operations. I was the "curve killer". I took that as complimentary. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I was untouchable or even a master of everything I was doing. Anyone in claims knows that every day is a learning day... Back to the cons... I felt I was ready for the next level and applied for a management position. I was received poorly by management for this move. The main comment that stuck with me was "Are you sure you want this?" After that, I was given a fake interview, me knowing that it was fake, went through it with a smile and pretended like all was well. The job posting was later proven to be a "promised" position to a friend of an upper manager. I could go all day about this, but I won't because it is not worth my time or yours. The moral of my story is that if you are good at what you do, this is all you will ever do. If you are not liked, you could be promoted to management and later fired for poor performance. You may or may not get raised based on "performance" of the office as a whole, not your own performance. These are all either facts or internal perceptions viewed by me and a large amount of my peers from our particular office. Bottom line, accept this as a job, a well paying job, and enjoy your home life. Expect people to get promoted from another company as this company's management is "progressive"ly getting called in from other sources ;-)
