Pros

Travelocity has the resources of a large company but still has the feel of a relatively small company. While it is well past its dot-com phase, it still remains a pretty fun and interesting place to work. The best reasons to work for Travelocity are the relaxed work environment, the youthful leadership, and opportunities for professional growth. The work environment is very casual and (until recently) very creative. Most of the employees are in their early to mid 30s and well educated. The relative youth of the company also provides a lot of opportunities for professional development. It is very common to move around between teams and departments. This provides employees with a chance to learn new skills and experience different parts of the business.

Cons

The downsides to working at Travelocity are similar to most companies. Most of the technical and customer service work is now performed outside the U.S. in countries like India, Poland, and Argentina. Therefore many employees must take late night calls abroad. This also makes it difficult to work with so-called Agile development methodologies when teams are spread across multiple continents and timezones. Another downside is that most of the key executives, including the CEO, COO, CMO, and CTO all live and work out of the New York office even though the Southlake/Dallas office is the official corporate headquarters. This makes many of those that work at headquarters feel as though they are at a less important satellite office. It also means we have to have conference calls rather than face-to-face meetings with our key leaders. Another major downside is the Travel industry in general, which is very volatile. Due to that, layoffs have become a yearly occurence at Travelocity and its parent company Sabre.
