      Top Notch Engineering Challenges with So-So but Improving Upper Management

      Pros

      The engineering environment is fast paced with tons to do, but at the same time the company is mature enough to understand that employees have lives outside of work and strikes a good balance. TW has the benefits of a small tech company (easy to get involved in projects if you have an interest and are willing to learn, great place to start a career, truly cutting edge technology (not just packaging something that already exists), people are willing to teach) with the stability and benefits of a company that has been around 15 years and is definitely not a startup anymore.

      Cons

      Working on government contracts can be frustratingly slow, especially coming from a more dynamic educational environment. There is often a long runway before ideas can really take off (but the company was doing some work to address this just when I was leaving). Sometimes feels a little management heavy too, but again is necessary to handle the paperwork and compliance burdens of being a defense contractor. Lots of lip service given to diversity, but could take some concrete actions to improve it (name blind hiring, better recruiting from more diverse sources, support structures for underrepresented demographics).

      growing pains

      Pros

      lots of very talented people and good technology. new building. the company tries to setup fun events to keep people happy. trellisware has won a lot of work in the last 3 years.

      Cons

      i can echo some of the comments others have made. the quick growth has led to some poor hiring. upper management is disjointed and seems to make it up as they go along. most of the team mangers are very good but the exception seems to be the dysfunctional RF team.

      Great balance of working hard and having fun

      Pros

      TrellisWare has great benefits, a strong future ahead, and for a small company has a great mix of very talented people. The company's focus on military communications provides for a sincere sense of pride in work since what we do has real-world positive impact. The work here can be challenging, but is rewarding, and we celebrate our successes together. There is a great balance of working hard and having fun.

      Cons

      This may only be a con for some, but this is a time of growth for TrellisWare with a great business outlook, which means that people are very busy as we try to staff up in certain areas. To work here, you must be able to handle dynamic environments, work outside of your defined role, and put your colleagues ahead of your own needs.
