Pros

Excellent training on the technical aspects of the job; great instructors. One quickly learns how to work in the trenches. One learns how to conduct informational classes for clients. Many of the nurses and mental health workers care deeply about the work they do with patients on the behavioral health wards. Great employee cafeteria and service staff

Cons

Inadequate, understaffed, and poorly trained security personnel Ineffective employee union Learning the application of the techniques taught during training is done alone and under fire Overloaded, overworked, and unappreciated nursing staff Some of the docs are arrogant, dismissive, and condescending to nurses, staff, and patients Compliments and rewards are withheld from staff despite often amazing work; fear of the owner's wrath is fomented Lazy old-timers tolerated Resistant to change Glaring, dangerous errors are covered up rather than used as teachable moments, and infighting, bullying, finger-pointing and backstabbing amongst the nursing and mental health staff is de rigeur. A culture of disrespect between the nurses and the MHCs is growing. Cooperation is not likely to happen in an environment where people, rather than problems, are attacked by an upper management team concerned more with the illusion of amity and effectiveness than making it a reality.
