Pros

Cultural diversity, salary a bit higher than average call centre in Edinburgh,

Cons

The management team is simply incompetent to fulfil their role. The service manager is very insecure and unable to run this team effectively. Some of the group TLs are trying but are completely unsupported and cannot be developed effectively. The operations manager tenure has been around 3 months. The Edinburgh site is running as a Chinese branch rather than a standalone business focusing on the way that European companies operate. Senior management accept everything that Chinese HQ will try to implement without even asking the basic questions showing clear lack of understanding of the processes but expecting the agents and TLs to adhere on them.

Pros

Good pay if you know how to negotiate

Cons

Do not join the international business unit (IBU). The management is very unstable. In 1 year, the C suite can change 3 times and each change means changes to the ground too. The approach is very top down. There is no true Ctrip culture and everyone is working for themselves, mainly to “save their ass”. Leaders are extremely incompetent. They don’t even know how to hire and ask the right questions and they’ll not think twice to fire anyone they dislike. Don’t bother with HR for support. HR can’t even speak proper English so they wouldn’t care. Lastly, the work culture is extremely toxic. Almost everyone I know dislikes their boss and job. I’ve even heard that staff secretly record their convos with their boss just as precaution. It’s very political and many unethical decisions being made. It’s not foreigner friendly. Trust me, save yourself from the misery

Pros

-Relatively interesting work which looks nice on the CV. -You can learn a lot if you have never worked in travel or an "officey" environment -Easy to get away with doing the bare minimum if that is what you like to do -Nice international mix of colleagues from a lot of different backgrounds -The office is pretty nice.

Cons

-absolutely no communication from management. It is like working on a leaking ship with a broken rudder and no captain. The first mate still goes around hounding people for not following the absent captain's orders. They treat people like serfs. -Absolutely Kafka-esque working environment which follows very little ryhme or reason. - the business has been run into the ground by a revolving door series of incompetent operations managers (I have had 6 operations managers ince working there and some have quite after <2 months). The Chinese Head office appear to have finally settled on someone dumb enough to follow orders without question and who aligns with their sociopathic values. -Dealing daily with justifiably angry customers whom it is impossible to help at times. They are usually angry when they are being screwed over by anonymous and mysterious "vendors" operating from China. Half your time will be spent chasing overworked Chinese speakers to chase these mysterious marauders who like to sail very close to the wind of legality. (To be clear I am not accusing the company of criminal activity but these vendors regularly obfuscate the truth and outright lie to protect their interests and you are left trying to justify the unjustifiable to angry callers) I can only agree with the other reviews. The pigheaded attitude of management is driving out the most competent and hard working staff (I have witnessed at least 5+ of our best staff leave because of how they are treated by management) Most definitely a sinking ship which all in all is quite a shame as it is a lot of wasted potential.
