      Pros

      Cool, cutting edge projects to work on.

      Cons

      Can never do enough to satisfy management, even though working weeks of long hours (from when you get up to when you go to sleep, including weekends) on proposals. Also, there's about a 15-20% win rate on those proposals, so it is very frustrating to have all that work go for naught. Also, turnover rate is very high and you're only as good as your proposal wins.

      Work on a variety of projects.

      Cons

      You only work on projects with available funding. Very little teamwork or communication between groups. Communication from upper management happens about once per year. Many benefits are seniority based, Given the high turnover (30%), a select group of folks is living great (401k vesting and periodic bonuses, stock option vesting, vacation).
