Pros

A good working environment with intelligent co-workers. Agile / Scrum methodology keeps you feeling like you're accomplishing something, as opposed to the former waterfall methods

Cons

Bureaucracy, red tape, delays. I feel like we're somewhat behind-the-times when it comes to new technology.

It’s always exciting for me to hear about our agile journey. I appreciate hearing specifically how it is improving your experience and the results for the organization. The approach of agile and the mindset is designed to create more empowerment and decision-making capabilities. These in turn, should reduce bureaucracy. I recognize it will take some time as we continue to learn into these changes. I also appreciate your comments on the technology. Please know, we are addressing this. We continue to invest in our business, and have done so for several years now, to ensure our future success. What I ask from you is your continued patience and flexibility as we address some of this tech debt. Thanks for all your hard work. Linda Nedelcoff, SVP, HR

Pros

Past leadership: Al C taught us that "You never know what someone else is going through or just went through when you meet them, so be kind and give people the benefit of the doubt". Those words over my 22 years in the business have stuck with me and I'm a better manager (leader) because of him.

Cons

Current management only cares their bottom line but yet they waste so much money asking 3rd parties consultants what they should be doing.

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your quote. It really reflects what makes a difference to our customers: a genuine commitment to put their needs first. I also appreciate how you have intentionally used this philosophy for action in your leadership behaviors. As we look to be the difference for our customers and consumers, we want to ensure we are getting the best ideas from the market, our employees and the industry. The use of consultants and external advisors can present ideas or approaches that we may not identify on our own. However, that is not to say we don’t have ideas within the organization. You should always feel empowered to speak up, share your thoughts, ideas and vision. Please know that I encourage you to talk with your manager about ideas and thoughts for the organization. You are also welcome to reach out to me personally for a more in-depth conversation. Linda Nedelcoff, SVP, HR

Pros

Overall Excellent Pay and Benefits as compared to other insurance companies.

Cons

Depending upon which department you work in, the longevity of current employees may be an obstacle. There are many very long term employees and managers who are not necessarily always welcoming of newer or younger employees. In addition, in some cases these same individuals may also not be open to new ideas or new ways of doing things. Even after working there for nearly 10 years, it’s still very hard to overcome the stigma of being ‘new.’

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I can understand your frustration. We are absolutely committed to building an inclusive environment at CUNA Mutual Group; one that allows everyone to grow, contribute and be successful. Bob’s direction to us is clear: we need to innovate, and to do that we need to welcome and embrace new ideas, and challenge those around us to do the same. I know different teams and departments are at varying levels of maturity with that, but I do believe we’re making progress. I encourage you to continue doing what you’re doing. Challenge those around you to try new ideas, to innovate. Keep asking questions. If you want to talk further, I invite you to contact me directly for a confidential discussion.
