Pros

Aside from the recent "restructuring", good job security and steady hours. Decent benefits too. Good people in HR who try to take care of employees. Mostly a decent place to work. I miss some of my coworkers! Thanks to training sessions at True, I was exposed to refrigeration and ultimately decided to attend night classes for HVAC. A very important stepping stone where I decided that I wanted more for myself - not just a job but a promising career.

Cons

Not much upside for many of the people working there. Hard work is often rewarded with more responsibility for the same pay. People who don't pull their weight get paid the same as the ones who get stuff done. They're still behind the times despite recent changes. It seems like everybody knows somebody who works/ worked at True and most of them don't have positive things to say. I worked in both the factory and office and was not able to move up despite going to school for HVAC and becoming a certified technician. I transferred back to the factory so I could go to night school for HVAC. I waited 3 months for my boss in the office to say yes or no to a schedule change, then ultimately asked to be transferred back to the factory. He tried to keep me under his thumb in a factory position closely related to my office job, but I did not want to work for him anymore after the schedule change shenanigans. Thankfully HR listened to my concerns and allowed me to transfer to a different factory job. My boss wouldn't even look at me after that, it was very awkward for those last two weeks in the office. He never shook my hand or said goodbye, simply sent out an email to the whole department telling me "best of luck in your future endeavors". I applied for a service technician apprenticeship three times, finally got an interview, and they did not offer me the position. Within 3 months I had done several interviews elsewhere and accepted a position with another company. I have True to thank for lighting a fire inside me to want more for myself. I'm now an HVAC installer making a comfortable living and learning new things every day.

Pros

Worked there for 8 years...Most of the people I worked with are really great people, especially in the summer when it's reaching 115 degrees, everyone tried to keep a positive attitude. Really good pay, and decent benefits. The company continued to function during the economic collapse in 2008, despite other factories laying people off.

Cons

Unless you are in the good ol' boy club, you won't go far with a lot of the supervisors. There are people who have been fired for a lot less than what some of the supervisors do, but it all depends on who you hunt, fish or hang out with. That was my worst experience there. A previous response from the company said "continually strive for an environment where all employees are treated fairly and equally". That might look good at a high corporate level, but I guarantee, in the trenches, not so much.

When there are opportunities for advancement, the positions are posted company wide. Therefore, Team Members from any location and/or any shift, have an equal opportunity to apply and interview. Then, the most qualified candidate is chosen. In attempt to get to know Team Members better, we hold different company events, such as True’s Family Fun Day and yearly basketball, softball, and volleyball tournaments. Our Team Members are not a number to us; we appreciate each and every Team Member and want everyone to be successful at True. Similar to any company, True is always growing and improving. We do continually strive for an environment where all employees are treated fairly and equally. Our company has multiple leaders in place in each building. Therefore, if a Team Member has suggestions and/or concerns, there is someone for them to reach out to and speak with daily. We are sorry you feel this way. There are many people who are very proud to work for the leading manufacturer of commercial refrigeration that offers steady work and great benefits.

Pros

True is a very stable, successful company in the market. There have been many positive changes in policies alone just in the past year.

Cons

The company needs to take a step back and listen to what its current employees are searching for. More flexibility and time off for their families are important. It's sad when someone has a sick child at home and rather than just stay home with them, they panic because they are so limited on their days they can take off. If you are trying to raise a family while working for True, you can forget about ever having "perfect" (or even good) attendance.

Thank you for your feedback. True’s leadership team is working hard to engage our employees and ensure only the best work environment. We take tremendous pride in our efforts to become an Employer of Choice. As such, we've taken great strides in recent months to enhance our employee flexibility options. We continue to evaluate these policies as we gain more and more feedback. We appreciate your openness in sharing this and would ask that you also provide healthy and constructive feedback to your manager to help us continuously improve in these areas.
