Pros

Flexible hours, no chance of ever getting fired, free time can be spent doing whatever you want. I often walk through different campus locations and see people on youtube and facebook consistently.

Cons

Low pay, no pay increases based off of performance, bad employees never fired. The pro of being able to do things like be on facebook all day cause a lot of problems with the college. Good employees have absolutely zero incentive to do anything other than the bare minimum. Bad employees get the same benefits as good employees. There are very few opportunities for advancement, and it is very hard to transfer to a different department since the college does not like to hire from within. Pay is based only off of two criteria; seniority and position. There is a small variance in starting pay depending on things such as experience, or whatever HR decided to approve regardless of experience, but it is not much. Pay is divided up into pay brackets and new hires are not allowed to be hired without approval from the board of reagents if their pay is close to the median of the pay level. Raises are given at 3% a year if approved which often does not happen. I only got two 3% raises in 5 years. Another 1% is given based off of performance if you are full time. Another issue is part time employees get no benefits. No insurance or paid time off, even for days that you are forced to take off like Christmas. Oh and part time employees are required to be paid the minimum of the pay scale regardless of all factors. That means that there is no incentive for a part time employee to do anything other than the minimum, especially since they are not likely to be offered a full time position anyways. The amount of wasted money is absolutely astonishing. We rent several vehicles and buildings instead of buying them out of convenience. Lots of equipment is destroyed or discarded every day due to lack of purchasing oversight. HR will do everything they can to not get involved with an issue or let the issue get resolved. This often leads to long term conflicts between employees. I have personally witnessed employees with substance abuse problems that have been going on for years, but despite this HR refuses to fire them. If TCC was a business it would go under so quickly.

Pros

1) It's stable 2) It's easy...for the most part 3) AWESOME benefits (3 weeks sick pay, 3 weeks vacation, 16 hours personal, 8 hours community service pay 4) Take classes for free 5) Decent healthcare 6) overall good environment

Cons

Well, this depends on which campus you work at and if you're staff or faculty. I'm staff at the Metro campus. 1) Great job, but I will never see my fullest potential with what I can do. (Animation - Hard Surface modeler) 2) not very good communication between departments 3) if you want something to happen, be prepared to wait at least 6 month before it actually happens.
