Pros

I grew up on a farm, and I've been working since I was fourteen. I can't say I've necessarily had a "lot" of jobs over the years, but I can say, without a doubt, of all the jobs I've had, this has been the best job I've had the privilege of being a part of. Job isn't even the right word; this is and will continue to be, a good family. I say family because families look out for each other's needs and do what they can to support the rest of the family. Families are open and transparent about things you excel in and are not afraid to point out your mistakes. Families show appreciation in word and deed to further reaffirm your belonging. And like a good family, we all here at Two Barrels work, laugh, struggle, play, and do whatever we can to edify each other and provide exceeding value to our customers. From the moment I walked in through the doors, I knew this company was something special. Every person I have had the opportunity to meet has changed and improved my life in some way. Most companies tend to have at least one or two people you avoid because of their rampant toxicity. Not here. We are very selective in our hiring process because we want to protect our family, and I am so thankful for our excellent recruiters. If your application is rejected, please don't be offended, it just means you might be less than an ideal fit into our family as you are right now. As others have stated, this is not the ideal culture for everyone. What do I mean by that? This company looks for humble, teachable, willing, independent, but collaborative adults who strive to better the environment around them. Unlike some positions, this family requires its members to take ownership and dig into a problem, often getting their hands dirty to find a solution. My experience here has proved so far that humility and hard effort are heavily rewarded. Humility is especially important in this position because you will make mistakes. Taking ownership of your mistakes and learning from them is expected here. However, I have never been yelled at, demeaned, or berated in any way for making mistakes. Instead, my managers are direct, "Alright, you messed up. Since that didn't work, we should figure out, together, what steps you can do in the future to prevent this from failing, or to make this process better". Overall, I am just so thankful for Two Barrels. If you are looking for a place that you can call "home", are willing to get your hands dirty, able to admit your mistakes, then please look no further-- this is the place for you.

Cons

At times, structure is lacking (although this may be a pro to myself and others). At the moment we are spread a little thin because there are just so many great ideas and products we want to get out, but just simply not enough developers to do it all-- yet!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. We’re glad you found us and hope you continue to find the work rewarding and challenging. Even as we’ve grown, we’ve tried really hard to make sure our culture and connection within our teams remain strong. Nobody is perfect, owning up to our mistakes is the best way to learn and move forward together. We hope people feel comfortable to say hey, I messed up and need help. The problems we’re solving here usually don’t have easy answers, we expect there to be some trial and error. It sounds like you get that and are really enjoying that part of our culture – that’s awesome! We’re working on structure, slowly but surely! It’s a fine balance of providing enough structure without overdoing it. Thanks for being part of our family.

Great place to work

Pros

Great work life balance - 40hrs week. Completely Remote. Team is invested in the success of the product. Opportunity to define and own processes. Dedicated resources (for some teams) - Support, Design, Analysts, Developers, and Project Coordinators. Build vs Buy mentality (pro and con). You will succeed if you know how to deal with ambiguity and have an ownership mentality.

Cons

Parking downtown is a pain.

It sounds like you really get us. We’re always working towards clear business goals for our team, but we do think that ambiguity can often lead to out-of-the-box creative thinking which then naturally provides more ownership which is our ultimate goal. Parking downtown does suck, we get it. Our quarterly benefits allowance can help offset this cost if you choose to use it towards parking. Otherwise, might be time to explore teleportation.
