Truly a one-of-a-kind place—overall, more pros than cons
Pros
- Relatively good pay for the industry. - Company has a highly resilient business model. - I find that employees are, for the most part, trusted and valued. Little micromanagement. Teams mostly self-organize and crush. - The company works hard to foster a culture that really does feel different from an average mid-sized company. I hope it continues as the company is growing quickly. - The company wants people to advance. There's very little toxic "stay in your place, under my thumb" culture here. Advancement opportunities are prioritized and those who want to advance, can do so with enough good performance and effort. - Good work-life balance, for the most part. Though there is far more than enough work to put in 50-60 hour weeks, if you set boundaries, they are respected.
Cons
- Understanding the product/client base, all the teams, and how things work can be immensely challenging for newcomers. Even after years at the company, it's still a challenge to grasp all the moving pieces. - Documentation bloat. It sometimes seems that for any given project there are countless live planning or tracking documents, which makes getting a clear, quick idea of the state of a given project becomes a task unto itself. - As stated above, the company is growing fast, and there have been some growing pains. - Questionable value-add of externally hired senior management.
