Pros

I really enjoyed that Tyler Technologies was so open to new ideas. They were willing to try and implement the best ones. This gave me a lot of freedom, but it did have to live in the confines of "outside the regular sprint cycle". I was able to improve processes, decrease the need for support, and use new technologies. They are expanding their product selection and I felt a good balance between supporting, updating/refreshing, and green-fielding software. The work-home life balance is excellent. I can recall nearly every one of the few times I had to burn the midnight oil more than I wanted to personally. There are career opportunities to be had, but you have to actively seek them out, push for them, and follow up.

Cons

There are some legacy (under very active development) systems Tyler still uses. Interfacing with, or using, COBOL can be a challenge. Employees should be aggressive during their reviews to show what they've done warrants a pay increase. The company is frugal, but not cheap.

Pros

- Employees are hard working and care about the products - Work life balance is good, lots of opportunities to work at home - Management is trying to make it more fun

Cons

- Issues are swept under the rug instead of talked about. - Every year a new plan is created by "leadership" and presented, by July its long forgotten - Management isn't interested in different opinions and continuous improvement, status quo works best and gets you places. - Culture is deep rooted and managers are king - Employees really run the place, have the ear of VP with problems instead of some healthy confrontation - Leadership is made up of highest ranking employees, not the real thought leaders
