Looks like a great organization...from outward appearances

Pros

* Great work/life balance due to various flexible work schedules being available. * Tele-work flexibility * Friendly employees

Cons

* Extremely political agency * Promotion go by longevity/whom you know rather than by skills/knowledge * Lots of supervisory/management involvement even on tasks that should be autonomous * Stuck in their ways and recommendations only taken seriously when given by "favorite" employees. * Talent tends to leave because of seemingly unfair promotion policies, there is something wrong when higher graded team leads or supervisors lack some of the basic technical skills needed for the job, yet they keep getting promoted.

Pros

as a contractor - none.. we got paid time off on federal holidays and that's about the extent of positive experiences

Cons

-most people that work there are just a bunch of automatons.... spending the day there is like watching paint dry ( I know cubicle jobs are typically boring, but this place took it to another level) -some managers were a nightmare.. you have to deal with omnipresent micro-managers who would constantly stare at employees to the point of uncomfortable - ever since the vegas scandal, they don't spend money on anything.. no napkins, cups or anything in the break room.. same goes for office supplies.. when I asked for a mouse pad once I got a sticky used one...umm thanks?

Better than most Federal Agencies...But...

Pros

- It is an honor to serve the public and fellow Federal employees by ensuring the safety of our public buildings. - Working on challenging, interesting building projects. - Great benefits for Holidays, Vacation, Sick Leave, and Insurance Coverage.

Cons

- Pay is not commensurate with private sector. - A significant sector of workforce is wrought with over-entitlement issues, lack of motivation, and lack of commitment to quality and regulatory compliance. - Upward mobility is stymied due to lack of attrition. - Extremely limited with regard to commonplace business gifts - no game tickets, limited to $20 value token gifts/meal/etc. - Important, urgent building needs are seriously underfunded
