- Not many young people, aside from a bunch of interns in summer. Most of my teammates could have been my parents. They were quite accepting, but it would have been nice to have someone within a decade of my own age on my team.
- While gender balance appears to be good, racial and other diversity is essentially non-existent. And I am speaking as a white male who generally doesn't notice these things. I doubt this is deliberate, more a result of the demographics of Appleton.
- Appleton has a more rural culture than most cities. For comparison, Reykjavík, Iceland, which has half the population of Appleton and has even worse weather, has twice the cosmopolitan feel.
- Major products are car tires and oil. While the company is doing incredibly well financially, right now, and for the next decade or two I imagine, I am less certain it will be doing well in 50 years as technology changes. Also not a great place for an environmentalist.
